I went to the White Night festival last night. It was insanely crowded, which isn't generally my scene, but it was fun to catch up with some old friends and see some of the attractions.
This was actually the first time that I had a chance to really test my camera's night photography ability. Verdict: it sucks. Even my mobile phone camera tended to take photos which are less grainy! I can totally understand now how people can start spending huge amounts of money and effort on their photography. I'm only into it as a very much casual hobby, and I'm already very frustrated at times with the limitations of my camera. In particular for night photography.
Anyway, here are a few of the photos that came out sort of okay. It was a pretty cool night.

Port Melbourne to St Kilda
I randomly went to Port Melbourne today. Not sure exactly what inspired me. Port Melbourne is one of the quieter bits of inner Melbourne, despite being very close to other much more bustling neighbourhoods.
Wasn't sure what I was going to do there really, so ended up just walking along the foreshore, right down to St Kilda. It's not a very long walk, but with all my stopping for photos and general fluffing around - it took a good two hours to get there.
Not much of the photography today was particularly inspiring. Partly because the light wasn't very good at the start - it was a dull kind of part-cloudiness. But here are a few shots that give an idea of what it means to walk along the foreshore from Port Melbourne to St Kilda...
