Sunset Walk in Port Melbourne

I took a little sunset walk around Port Melbourne last night. It'd been a while since I'd been on a photo walk, and I was really itching to get out there - even though it looked very clear and didn't seem like it would make for an interesting sunset.

It turned out that there were some little clouds out west after all, so sunset itself was reasonably interesting, if not particularly spectacular in the scheme of things.

One of the main things I was trying to do on this walk was to make the sunset photos look as realistic to memory as possible. With my OM-D EM-5, I find that the white balance tends to be a little washed out in bright afternoon conditions by default (if shooting on manual or program modes), while using iAuto or the sunset scene setting usually oversaturates it. Sunset mode does overall get it reasonably close though, unless there are some bizarre combinations of colours and shadows happening.

So anyway, here is a selection of pics. No filters or any major post-processing here. It's basically as close to reality as my memories of the evening.

New Year, Old Me

So yet another year has gone past...

I have to say, despite all the memes going around on the Internet about how 2016 was The Worst Year Ever, I haven't had a particularly bad 2016. About the only thing that was notably bad about it (for me personally that is) was that Melbourne had its worst hayfever season in history. But otherwise, it was a pretty good year for me.

I have no specific goals or New Years resolutions this year. Mostly just planning on plodding along and doing similar stuff to what I did in 2016. Possibly tweaking my job situation a bit, but that isn't really something that can be aimed for (directly) - it mostly comes down to suitable positions within the company opening up.

Otherwise, just planning on enjoying the everyday moments, and going on little mini holidays here and there.
